Paul Holland Named General Partner at Foundation Capital
Software Industry Veteran Advances in Prominent Silicon Valley Venture Capital Firm

MENLO PARK, Calif., June 25, 2002 - Foundation Capital, a venture capital firm committed to early stage company building, today announced that Paul Holland has been named a general partner. Holland brings nearly two decades of start-up operating experience to Foundation Capital. Most recently he was senior vice president of worldwide sales for Kana Communications (NASDAQ: KANA). Before that, Holland served as vice president and general manager at Pure-Atria (NASDAQ: RATL).

"Since joining Foundation Capital as a venture partner in September of 2001, I have enjoyed working among my Foundation Capital colleagues who demonstrate outstanding dedication to the success of their portfolio companies," said Holland. "As a general partner, I will continue to apply my industry experience to the business of discovering and fostering the growth of enterprise software technologies."

"At Foundation Capital, we strive to uncover promising technologies and foster strong entrepreneurs. Our investments include such companies as CommerceOne, Interwoven, Onyx, Adaptec, Auspex, Aspect Telecommunications, Documentum, Netzero, Netflix, and numerous companies acquired by Cisco and Nortel," said Bill Elmore, general partner, Foundation Capital. "With Paul's hands-on experience at Kana and Pure-Atria, we feel confident his own entrepreneurial vision will contribute greatly to Foundation Capital's legacy of building great companies from the ground up."

Holland's prior experience focused on enterprise software companies. While senior vice president of worldwide sales for Kana Communications, Holland's team acquired more than 900 customers in over ten countries with sales rising more than 5,000 percent over a period of three years. Prior to Kana Communications, Holland worked for Pure Software where he served in several key North American and international management roles. Over the five years he was with Pure Software, later Pure-Atria, he helped grow revenues from $2 million to more than $100 million. Holland began his professional career at SRI International (formerly the Stanford Research Institute).

Paul Holland will join the seven general partners that comprise the Foundation Capital team. Each partner brings unique technology, operational and investment experience to the firm.
