Fujitsu to Distribute and Support Hammerhead Systems' HSX 6000 Migration Edge Solution
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. & RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2004-

Reseller Agreement Combines Joint Marketing, Sales and Support for Hammerhead's Migration Edge Switch and the Fujitsu World Class Service and Support Organization

Hammerhead Systems Hammerhead Systems, Inc., the market leader in revenue migration solutions, and Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and networking solutions, today announced a reseller agreement involving joint marketing, product planning, customer support and services. The agreement brings together the innovative technology and disruptive economics of the Hammerhead(TM) HSX 6000(TM) Migration Edge solution and the Fujitsu financial and operational strength along with their proven track record with working with Tier 1 service providers and Multiple System Operators (MSOs). Fujitsu also announced today that Hammerhead Systems has been selected as part of its Flexible Architecture for Subscriber Service Termination (FASST(TM)) solution portfolio.

"Hammerhead is delighted to team with Fujitsu, a $45 billion dollar market leader and the largest IT and telecommunications systems integrator in the world, to deliver, deploy and support our HSX 6000 Migration Edge Solution. We understand the service provider interest in having us team with world class service and support organizations and are pleased to announce this partnership with one of their leading incumbent suppliers," said Joe Sigrist, president and CEO of Hammerhead Systems. "Fujitsu has executed many of the industry's most complex network transitions and is an optimal partner to support our customers' controlled migration from ATM to Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)."

"Our customers need to leverage their billion dollar installed base while they transition to an efficient packet infrastructure capable of delivering new business services. Hammerhead Systems has fundamentally changed the economics of edge platforms with their innovative architecture and density of the HSX 6000," said Rodney Boehm, senior vice president of data and customer solutions at Fujitsu Network Communications. "This alliance provides service providers with breakthrough technology like Hammerhead's bandwidth pooling and dual control planes, without compromising a service provider's desire to buy from their preferred incumbent suppliers."

The agreement enables Fujitsu to sell and support Hammerhead's HSX 6000 migration edge switch and Pegador(TM) Network Management System (NMS) throughout North America. Fujitsu immediately offers a national sales, service and support organization of more than 500 people. The agreement also includes joint marketing and sales promotion to service providers.

Fujitsu also announced today that Hammerhead has been selected as one of the key migration technologies in the FASST architecture, which was announced on June 7, 2004. FASST is an architecture and solution suite optimized for transition management. This unique partnership enables service providers to manage the many critical transitions they must execute, while mitigating risk, leveraging their multi-billion dollar investments in SONET, ATM, Frame Relay, IP, MPLS and Operational Support System (OSS) products, and taking advantage of advanced Optical Ethernet technology. Central to these transitions is the shift to more profitable service delivery models that enable a broad range of differentiable carrier class Ethernet services, managed IP services and advanced Triple Play, along with the migration of existing corporate data services (e.g., Frame Relay, ATM and Ethernet) to a converged core network based on MPLS.

Hammerhead announced general availability of the HSX 6000 and Pegador Network Management System on May 17, 2004. The HSX 6000 enables carriers' to retain their high-value customers, and helps migrate their $20 billion Frame Relay and ATM revenues onto their MPLS core networks, while introducing Ethernet services with a profitable business model. Hammerhead brings innovation and disruptive economics to the Layer 2 carrier infrastructure, providing a 10X to 30X improvement in density and a 50%+ improvement in cost versus existing platforms. The HSX 6000 is the first solution with service agile ports, bandwidth pooling, a distributed service interworking engine, and a dual control plane with bridge and roll to minimize a service provider's risk.

Fujitsu brings over 20 years experience working with every Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier (ILEC) and Telcordia(TM), an award winning testing and certification organization, along with a world-class supply chain and multi-million dollar infrastructure with global purchasing power of over $20 billion. The telecommunications leader has a proven track record in helping large carriers smoothly execute the industry's most complex transitions, including the wholesale transition from Asynchronous to SONET transmission infrastructures, the addition of next-generation Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks and the associated speed increases from 150 Mbps to 1.76 Tbps capacities, while keeping existing business operations stable and uninterrupted.
